Mother's Day

Mothers day is an annual event, when Mothers are treated with respect. It isn't really about what it's name is, although we still celebrate it literally. It is  three weeks before Easter Sunday. Mothering Sunday was the day that Christians returned to their mother (home) Church to prepare for Easter. This year it was on March 31st.
In America Mothers Day is celebrated in May. Back in the Roman and Greek times the festivals was in honour of the mother goddesses Rhea and Cybele.
Here are some facts about Mothers day:
1. Mothers Day started as an anti-war movement. Anna Jarvis is  the founder of Mother Day.
2. It was first celebrated in 1908 when Anna Jarvis held a memorial for her Mother.

Established in 1997, National Science Week provides a opportunity to acknowledge the contributions of Australian scientists to the world of knowledge. Its also aimed to encourage a interest in science and to fascinate young people in the world we live in. We celebrate science technology, engineering and maths, featuring entertaining and engaging events and activities across the UK for people of all ages. We are going to have a science event on the 14th of March 3:00pm-4:30pm where parents and children come in and learn about parts of the human body in different parts of the school. The whole school has been doing extra science lessons and lots of fun activities such as Eureka science visitors and year 6 making blood.

Red Nose Day!

Red Nose Day ( also known as Comic Relief ) is on 15th March.  We celebrate Red Nose Day to help people living tough lives across the UK. Red Nose Day was made in 1988. The 2nd Red Nose Day was 10th March 1989. People raised over 27 million pounds on the 2nd Red Nose Day.  The 3rd Red Nose Day was a little more fun, considering the red noses had arms and feet.  The 4th Red Nose Day had a theme of poverty.  Since this was the theme, some of the red noses were shaped and coloured like tomatoes.  The 5th Red Nose Day had colours of yellow to red and pink.  In 1997, the red noses turned into fluffy red noses. Glitter red noses were created in 1999. Comic Relief raised over £35 million when their famous glitter red noses were created.  In 2001, red noses turned into a silly face with a tongue sticking out.  Red noses had hair and came with a sachet of hair gel to style your red nose's hair.  In 2005, red noses still had hair, however all the red noses had rubber hair.  Red noses became red sponges instead of having faces with hair.  2009 was when Comic Relief made 3 different red noses, which you could collect with faces but no hair.  2013's theme for Red Nose Day was dinosaurs with feet and faces.  Red Noses were in bags when it was 2015 and had funny faces to raise more money for charity Now we get on red noses in boxes. This year the boxes could be made into castles.

Pancake Day

1/3/2019

Pancake Day , or Shrove Tuesday, is celebrated because it is the final chance for Christians to eat sweet treats before Lent. The date changes depending on Shrove Tuesday.  Its based upon beliefs surrounding spring time and Easter.  Christians use pancakes because of a simple thing: their ingredients.  Shrove Tuesday, or Pancake Day, is celebrated the day before Ash Wednesday.  This year Pancake Day fell on 5th March.
