Fantastic facts...

  • Pirates were thieves at sea.

  • Pirates would attack the British and American trade routes and steal the cargo that was being shipped to different places.

  • A privateer was a sailor who worked for the Government.

  • Sometimes the crew would turn against the captain of the ship – this was known as mutiny.

  • Pirates that were caught were often hung as a punishment.

  • Long Island in America is famously known to have buried treasure that was never found – it may still be there today!

  • Make a treasure map.  You could even bury (hide) some treasure in your house and create a map for a friend, brother, sister or cousin to follow.  Will they find your buried treasure?

  • The Jolly Roger is the most famous pirate flag.  Why not design your own pirate flag...

  • Use an old kitchen roll or wrapping paper tube to create your own pirate's telescope.
