  • The famous big five safari animals are: lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, and buffalo.

  • A baby giraffe is called a calf and can weigh up to 220 pounds when it is born.

  • A lion’s roar can be heard up to five miles away!  It is one of the loudest noises made by an animal.

  • Leopards don’t roar, they bark and snarl.  When they are happy they even purr like a house cat.

  • Elephants use their ears to keep themselves cool and an adult elephant's ear is 42 inches in diameter, which is bigger than most three year old children.

  • The longest rhinoceros tusk ever discovered was 59 inches and belonged to a white rhino.
