On Tuesday 12th November, 5KJ went to Tatton Park. When we arrived at school, it was 8:15. We had to dress as Victorian servants as we were being Victorian servants. We boarded the very comfy coach that made me fall asleep. There was a very big congestion on the motorway, which made us wait extra-long. For an estimate, we thought we had to wait for over an hour. On the way to the entrance of Tatton Park, we saw deer sitting in front of the coach. We couldn’t go past because we didn’t want to hurt them. I was playing fun games with Shahid like rock paper scissors and eye spy. That made me awake and very patient. Once we got there, I felt so much better as I was about to get travel sick.
Coming into Tatton Park, it was very smelly because of the farms. As we entered the mansion, we had to put our hands behind our backs but the females had to put their hands in front of them. We met the 2 house keepers. The housekeepers are normally the ones that did the cleaning and washing. The mansion was musty and very old. The 2 housekeepers and butler checked our hands to see if they were clean enough to start our day as a Victorian servant.
As we entered the old room with a fireplace of copper pots layered on top of each other looking as if it was going to fall, it smelt of weird food. We made delicious scones. The scones smelt like a yummy piece of cake. It wasn’t a cake but smelt like one. We found out the kitchen was called the servants quarters. A few minutes later, we baked the scones up with the calorifier.
Later that day, we went up the soft, decorated stairs. So we went in the bedroom and sorted the room out. We had to make the bed perfect, fold it up the blanket and make sure there was not a single crease. Next, we made a fire with some kindling sticks and some newspaper. The bedroom was small but fancy. We looked at the garden through the window and it had a bush shaped as a miniature maze.
Later, we had lunch in a place called the stables. I was very tempted to eat because I was starving. I sat down with my friends and we had a chat. Feeling tired and exhausted, I wished we could have a longer break but we couldn’t. It was very cold and slippery outside.
Our third activity was that we had to scrub the floor. After that we found out we had to put the brush in the water then scrub. It was very hard because the floor was very dirty. We had to really scrub hard. My body kept turning and twisting. Our group also had to brush the floor with a broom. Servants didn’t hold it like we did they held it facing up.
Now to the most exciting part. We had a tour in the mansion and the was a secret doorway in the library. It was amazing. Then we went into the bus and arrived at school at approximately 4:00pm.
