On Wednesday 13th November, 5AD went to Tatton Park. We went there because our topic is about Victorians. Our class experienced life as a Victorian servant. The bus, which was late, it arrived at 8:30 am. Eventually, we sat on the bus, we buckled our seatbelts and talked with our friends. Bored because it took a long time, I slept so time would pass. Later on, we arrived at Tatton Park.
We met the butler and the 2 housekeepers and they told us a new fact about Victorian servants, girls had to put their hands in front and boys hand behind their back. We received our hats and aprons, which were clean. Then we were in individual groups. Firstly, we discovered a lot. Where we went, there was a beer barrel so it could be warm. After that, we had to hold a cup on a tray with 1 hand but real Victorian servants held a tray with loads of glasses, it might have been easy for them because they were professional. Waiting for my turn to hold the cup, I was kind of scared because I might have dropped it. When I first held the cup it was kind of easy but it might have been easy for the real Victorian servant. Later on, we stood in a straight line. Girls stand first and boys go behind the girls. That was a new fact we just discovered. We went in another room so we could experience how to scrub floors in the Victorian times. We took turns.
After about 40 minutes, we switched groups we went with 1 of the housekeepers, who was going to show us the bedroom. We went up in the lovely, gorgeous stairs. When we arrived to the spacious bedroom, we saw a sash window, which many people don’t have anymore. The view was so amazing. The housekeeper gave us a task to do. My friend and I were the pillow people, who had to make the soft, cosy pillows on the bed. Then we had to make a fire. Following the instructions, we used paper which would burn easily, that’s why we used it. After that, we put it in the fire place. The housekeeper put the black coal on. She put it in because the coal colour wouldn’t come off our hands.
Probably after 40 minutes, it was lunch time. I was so hungry. Eating in the stables, I had a tuna sandwich. After we ate our lunch, we went in our next activity, which was our last activity, was baking scones. We were with the other housekeeper, who was telling us how to make scones. We got 5 or 4 ingredients. Pouring the milk, she told us mix it up. After we mixed the ingredients, we made little round circles and put them in the oven. It would take about 30 minutes so the scones would be ready. We cleaned the equipment that we used for baking. Finally, the scones were ready and they smelled delicious.
Later on, all of 5AD came together and looked at the posh, gorgeous mansion, which Queen Victoria visited. The library had a secret door, which was amazing. On the tour we looked at, the dining room, library, main office and much more. Sadly, we had to leave but the housekeeper and the butler gave us 3 scones each. We went on the bus and said bye to them.
The traffic wasn’t bad when we were going home. We arrived at school at approximately 3:45. I ate my scones and they were okay but not the best. My favourite part was when we baked the tasteful, yummy scones. My least favourite part was when we were holding the cups because I didn’t know what the Victorian items where.
