Exciting Experience at Tatton Park

On Wednesday 13th November, 5AD visited Tatton Park because this term our topic has been the Victorian era. Excited for the trip, we arrived at 08:15 and set off at 08:35. During our journey, which took approximately half an hour, there was atrocious congestion on the M6. Travelling in the bus, we entered the driveway. We made our appearance at the mansion at 10:15. During our visit, we experienced cooking, cleaning and working like a Victorian maid.

As soon as we entered, we made sure our squished, delicious lunches were attached to our hands. Cautiously marching down the ruined, dishevelled corridor, which was as old fashioned, we entered the butler’s pantry. The butler was wearing a three piece suit and had a golden, shimmering pocket watch.  Happily, he introduced his name, which was Paul, and explained the rules such as the male servants must place their hands behind their backs. They also noted that the female servants must elegantly position their hands in front of their stomachs. Curiously, the female are called by their first name on the other hand the boys were called by their surnames. After that, we climbed up the steep staircase. Distracted by the appealing, elaborate view from outside the sash window, I didn’t notice the polished, attractive portrait frames.

Our first activity was to recognise the different utensils. Firstly, we practised carrying a cup to the butler because if we saw Lord and Lady Egerton and they wanted water or any drink it would be our duty to deliver it to them. Most of us found that activity easy but it wasn’t easy memorising the equipment of the kitchen. After that we visited the fridge room, we went to the kitchen were all the meat was stored.

Before we started our next job, which would be as fun as bouncing on a bouncy castle, we walked down the corridor admiring the cream, clean walls. Before we started cooking, we made sure our hands were as clean as a sheet of paper. We followed the recipe step by step so our scones would taste delectable.
After baking our scones, we moved on to our next activity. In the guest room, which had perfectly polished silver, we set up the fire place using the brown, textured kindling and other materials. Another fact is that, they had a twinkling chandelier light. When we finished our activity, the housekeeper gave Miss Duckworth our yummy treats we baked. When we collected all of our things we left the mansion and travelled home in the bus.

I enjoyed our visit because we had had a lot of fun experiences. I think the year 4 children would approve on this trip next year and I hope they find the trip as fun as we did.
