Fantastic facts...

  • The structural features of a castle were designed to prevent attacks.

  • A moat was a deep trench filled with water around the castle.

  • A drawbridge prevented people from entering the castle when it was raised.

  • Arrow loops are slits from which archers could attack the invaders without being seen.

  • The high walls of the castle made it difficult for enemies to climb.

  • Skipton castle was under siege for 3 years – this meant the enemies couldn’t get in, nor would they leave.

  • Create a pop-up story book of your favourite folk or fairytale.

  • Folk and fairy tales did not used to be written down, people would tell the stories out loud to share them.  Practise your oracy skills by retelling your faviourite folk or fairy tale.  Ask an adult to record your story and send it to school using your class e-mail address: 2016@pendleprimaryacademy.co.uk
